Junk Charm Casting

Junk Oracle Charm Casting also known as “junkomancy” is the art of using… well, junk… to do charm casting with. Traditionally known as Sortilege or Cleromacy, which is a method of divination by casting lots. Junk Oracles are a modern take on this and is comprised of the use of charm sets that are made with anything and everything. No two junk oracles are the same and they are personally crafted with intention and meaning that is truly personalized to the reader. This creates an energetic bond and intuitive connection that can’t be beat. Junk casting sets are commonly made up of stones, bones, shells, horns, seeds, buttons, coins, jewelry charms, tiny bits and bobs, plastic minis, just about anything that is small enough to make sense can go inside a junk casting set. Often these items are found on the ground, gifted trinkets, or special pieces found and collected in various ways. They are a crow trinket obsessed individual’s divination dream!

Publius Cornelius Tacitus was a Roman historian and politician and is widely regarded as one of the greatest Roman historians by modern scholars. historians by modern scholars. In Chapter X of his Germania (circa 98 AD), describes casting lots as a practice used by the Germanic tribes. He states:

“To divination and casting of lots, they pay attention beyond any other people. Their method of casting lots is a simple one: they cut a branch from a fruit-bearing tree and divide it into small pieces which they mark with certain distinctive signs and scatter at random onto a white cloth. Then, the priest of the community if the lots are consulted publicly, or the father of the family if it is done privately, after invoking the gods and with eyes raised to heaven, picks up three pieces, one at a time, and interprets them according to the signs previously marked upon them.”

Cleromancy as a practice stretches all the way back before recorded history which is around 4000BCE and beyond.
