Frequently Asked Questions
about Vampyres

Are vampires real?!

Yes, but not in the ways you may think. “Vampire” spelled with an i is usually to denote a fictional character. Immortal neck biting blood sucking killers. As far as we know, they do not exist.

Our website is for the Living “Real Vampyre”, which is an individual whose spirit, soul, consciousness, inner energy, and/or your inner energetic body has been marked with vampyric essence and nature. Over the course of one’s life, you end up intrinsically nurturing this vampyric nature until one day it fully awakens within you. The way your vampyric nature configures itself is largely up to your environment, your beliefs, your natural disposition, the things you experience (or suffer through), and sometimes even your physical health can cause your vampyric nature to manifest one way vs. another.

The experience of the vampyre varies from person to person, but there is a commonality of a need to feed on vital life-force energy in ways that are unique to us. Oftentimes, if this need goes unfulfilled, the Vampyre can experience lower states of spiritual, physical, and emotional wellbeing.

Aside from this need to feed, a Vampyre is usually an individual who feels on a deep intrinsic level that either all or part of their spirit or soul is imprinted with a vampyric essence for one reason or another. They are someone who believes all or part of their subtle body is vampiric in nature and most parts of their lives are influenced by this nature.

Are there different types of vampyres?

Yes, there are different types of vampyres. There are 3 main styles of vampyres quoted when this question is asked, but then there is a much deeper answer to this question when you dig under the surface.

When asked “what type of vampyre are you?” people generally are looking for one of the following three types:

Sang, or Sanguine Vampyres who indulge in blood feeding.

Psy/chic or Psi/onic Vampyres who indulge in energy feeding.

Eros Vampyres who indulge in sexual feeding.

How do I know if I'm a vampyre?

There’s no real easy way to answer this.

If you’re a vampyre by means of deficiency, it’s about experimentation. Do you have a hard time when you don’t feed? What happens when you do feed? You have to play around with vampyric experience until you’re able to sort out whether you’re having a temporary fascination or awakening to a lifelong experience that isn’t going to fade away when you’re bored.

You just have to take it slow, do research, read books or websites, learn from the experiences of others, but also sit with your own experience and become intune with what is happening within you and all around you.

This website is a shrine to vampyre culture and experience, cultivated for you to explore for this very purpose

What is an awakening?

Awakening is the revelation and understanding of one’s nature as a Vampyre and the needs that come along with it..  Most Vampyres are not born Awakened; they must have a revelation, accident, or experience to trigger the first stages of Awakening.  The Awakening is not a singular event, but a cumulative process of smaller awakenings as the Vampyre develops and learns.  Being newly Awakened can be a difficult time and is often a solitary journey.

Awakening is the very first step that becomes the catalyst for you to start training. Training your nature and honing your skills is a crucial part of the vampyric process.

Do all vampyres need to drink blood?

No. As you can see above in the “different types of vampyres” question there’s several types of vampyres and sanguines are the least common of them. Some do though.

Some Sanguine Vampyres consume smaller amounts of blood because of the life force found within it.

Medical Sanguines, or Medsangs consume larger amounts of blood because it satiates an unknown medical need that isn’t helped by anything other than the consumption of blood.

Will you turn me?

No. Nobody at The Vampyre Coven will “turn” you.

Can someone be turned into a Vampyre? Most people here would say “absolutely not! You’re born that way.” But it’s a little more complicated than that.

The real answer is: Most people aren’t truly capable of doing that, and it’s certainly nothing like a simple spell or the “bite and turn” idea shown in media.

Do all Vampyres wear fangs and dress like a Goth?

No, not all of them… but the cool ones do. (JUST KIDDING!)

Only a portion of those who identify as vampyres or exhibit vampiric traits look or dress the part. Sometimes they’re just regular average looking citizens working desk jobs or moms at the grocery store. Not everyone who looks the part is actually a vampyre either. Looks can always be deceiving.

Lifestyle Vampyres, or Lifestylers, are individuals who embrace and incorporate the vampire archetype into their lifestyle. Lifestylers are sometimes real vampyres, and sometimes just people playing a role. Lifestylers love the vampire aesthetic and embrace elements of the mythology into their day to day life, fashion, and mannerisms.  Lifestylers are the ones who fuel vampyre culture, creating a subculture that includes social codes, etiquette expectations, events,  gatherings, and all the other components of a living culture.

Are you just roleplaying? You're making this up right?

Are we just roleplaying? No, not at all. We’re not writing this entire website as an act of fiction. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, we’re being dead serious.

We’re not really here to convince the non-believers. We’re here for those who are existing members and supporters of our community (or those who want to be) – If that doesn’t include you, bugger off?

Are there vampires who pretend or act like fictional vampires?

The annoying side of lifestylers are the ones who pretend and try too hard in the fictional realm. These folks are the reason why “lifestyler” started to get thrown around like an insult.

There has always been and will always be individuals who take the metaphor we dance around within way too far. There are people who pretend the make believe side of things is real life. The reincarnations of Dracula, the 300 year old immortal bloodsucker “no but really tho” *gag*

The Vampyre Coven indulges in a lot of suspension of disbelief for the sake of our magick and our own decadent pleasure in liminal realms between “real” and other. But we don’t tolerate bullshit. Practicality is the name of the game in our community and we are not afraid to enforce boundaries.

How do I become a vampyre?

The short version is, you don’t. But…

It’s highly believed in the vampyre community that you cannot “become” a vampyre willingly.

But vampyric practitioners of the LHP believe otherwise.

Are Vampyres & werewolves at war?

Put down the Underworld & Twilight and back away slowly. Seriously…

No, of course not.

First, “werewolves” are only real in a human spirit shape shifting sort of way, not in a physical giant wolf person kind of way.

Second, Wolves and Vampyres get along just fine until people are acting stupid… but that’s a person to person drama problem not a vampyre vs. wolves problem.

There’s been a wolf pack/tribe keeping the North East USA Vampyre Community going for years now. If they were at “war” there’d probably be no Northeast Vampyre Community.

Are Vampyres affected by sunlight or silver?

A lot of Vampyres do claim to be affected by sunlight, but that’s more than likely a “this person never sees the light of day so they burn easy” kinda of problem than an effect from vampyrism. But there is widespread belief that vampyres burn easier and get sun poisoning easier than the average person.

What is a "Swan" and what's with the colors?

A “Swan” in vampyre community lingo terms is someone who is close to vampyres & the vampyre community but is not a vampyre themselves. They are often human allies to the community. Sometimes they are donors. Other times they are enemies of vampyres. But either way, it denotes some sort of entanglement with nightkind.

Black Swan – Ally to vampyres – sometimes a donor but not always

Crystal Swan – Psi Donor/Ally

Crimson Swan – Sanguine Donor/Ally

Amber Swan – Hybrid Donor/Ally

What is the best book to read about Vampyres?

That is such a good but hard question to answer.

The reality of Vampyrism is that it’s a modern practice. It’s the chaos magick lovechild of some people who took a current and ran with it in the 90’s and we’ve been building off of it ever since.

Father Sebastiaan’s work is highly ceremonial magick inspired, so I can see why it’s repetitive to you. Michelle Belanger’s work, particularly “Psychic Vampire Codex” and “Vampire: in their own words” are considered influential in the VC. Michelle has her “Kheprian” vampire system that is a mix of khemetic lore with ceremonial ritual and vampiric energy work. People consider Michael W. Ford’s Vampyric work important to the LHP style. I’m not his biggest fan but the LHP vampyres seem to like him. Don Webb has a book called Energy Magick of the Vampyre that is okay. I don’t really think a “holy grail/most important” book on vampyrism exists though. It hasn’t been written yet. Plus, it also depends on whether you want the occult side, the philosophy side, the vampyre community survival side, the “vampyrism as an ailment” side. Hopefully at least those titles will get you started.

About Donors

What is a donor?

A donor is a designated individual that gives their blood or energy to a vampyre.

How does one become a donor? (or find a donor)

It’s important to have a realistic and practical mindset when it comes to finding donors.

In the majority of things you find written about the nature of Vampyre/Donor relationships, forming a connection with a donor is portrayed as a transactional agreement between a potential donor and a seeking vampyre. You will often find people seeking donors in groups as if personal ads in Facebook groups or other “wanted ads” are the connection method of choice. In personal anecdotes I’ve collected over the last 10 years of experience, donors are most often found through personal encounters and chance meetings in strange places. They can be strangers at events, or best friends you never thought to ask before, and very often they’re lovers.

Because of the nature of these relationships, Vampyre/Donor negotiation periods are very important. You want to consider the same safety precautions as you would on the first couple dates with someone you’re courting. You are essentially courting or being courted when it comes to donor relations. You have to feel each other out, make sure your ideas align, make sure you’re both equipped and ready to handle exchange, make sure you’re both aware of your boundaries and what is and isn’t acceptable.

There are a ton of variables to consider when you’re dealing with vampyre/donor relationships. Read about them here

Does being a donor hurt?

It only hurts a little… in fact, you might even enjoy it… – Queen of the Damned

Sanguine extraction can cause some discomfort. The level of pain or discomfort caused depends on the method of extraction.

Some people utilize methods of extraction that are more like simple medical procedures. This style would aim to minimize discomfort.

However, the undeniable cross section of kink friendly vampyres may insist on indulging in a little more pain than that, which is their right as consenting adults to do so… but it’s also their responsibility to do it safely.

Indulge responsibly, learn anatomy, don’t be dumb, don’t die.

As far as psy feeding? It generally doesn’t hurt. You can be drained to a point where you’re lethargic, tired, or weak… but that goes away usually after you sleep. Prolonged continuous exposure to being fed on can cause you to feel chronic lethargy. So, then it can start to hurt you and cause damage to your energy systems. So recovery and distance is necessary sometimes in Donor/Vampyre relationships.

about Vampyre Community

What is the Vampyre Community

The “Vampyre Community” or the “VC” is the general nickname for the collective of individuals that exist under the identity label umbrella of “vampyre”. Most often than not, people are talking about a specific style of vampyre community when they talk about it. It is usually a collective that resides in networks of Facebook groups and pockets of in person vampyres that exist within or alongside the Sabretooth era and Legacy of vampyrism. Sabretooth gave way to a new era of community in the 90s and continues forth to this day. The VC are those who exist within that era, even people who hate Sabretooth during that era often exist within that paradigm regardless.

The problem is that there are vampyres in other circles who are not part of that particular current of Vampyre Community. LHP Vampyres in particular has stayed away from the general vampyre community as most know it, although you see a lot more intermingling of LHP Vampyres with the general VC in the 2020s more than ever before.

Moral of the story is that “Vampyre Community” is a bit of a misnomer. There’s many varied vampyre communities under the vampyre umbrella and there’s no universal paradigm that unites them all aside from our similar identity labels.

How do I become part of the Vampyre Community?

Objectively, all you really need to do is join a vampyre related facebook group or a discord server and start talking. Introduce yourself. Socialize. Don’t be an inflammatory idiot. Get involved. Get to know people. It’s really not that hard to get involved with the community at large. It’s just a matter of whether or not you’re willing to take your time to put in the effort to let people get to know you. Good quality communities are usually a little standoffish. This is by design. The better the quality of the group, the better their boundaries are. The ones that are worth being a part of usually have been through enough mistakes trying to welcome everyone that they no longer do that and they’re more selective of their members. Sometimes you have to join the wide open FB group and show you’re serious before you get offered a space in somewhere more exclusive.

More specifically though, you can easily start by joining our facebook group here. Come on down and say hi!

Before you join anywhere, think about how involved you really want to get? Do you only want to mingle with the online community? Are you looking to find a community in person? Are you willing to travel to meet up with the community? Or are you looking for an organization to join? If you’re trying to join an organization like a House, that’s a whole other ball game.

How do I join a Vampyre organization?

Getting involved in a meaningful capacity with a House, Inner Coven, Court, etc… it’s not supposed to be the easiest thing in the world. It’s supposed to be a process that includes introduction phases, vetting, acclimation, and then an official offer to join. You should have a courting phase with a prospective organization where you see if you vibe with their members and inner protocols, if you have the same goals and values, if the leadership is viable and worthwhile to follow, etc.

Many people make the mistake of going after and joining the first thing they find or taking the first offer despite some red flags because they want to belong so badly. This tactic has an incredibly high failure rate though. It’s often better to spend a considerable amount of time as a solitary vampyre learning about vampyrism and the community on your own before diving into trying to belong somewhere. Finding yourself first helps you live your own authentic experience rather than trying to assimilate to someone else’s defined experience.

Sometimes, the members or leaders of an existing organization will become a part of your life somehow. Random connections are made or friendships are built and they may offer you a peek inside their organization to see if you’d be a good fit. Sometimes you can be the one to reach out to an organization, but be ready to be turned down if they’re not open to enrollment.

The Vampyre Coven’s facebook group is a central community hub with a lot of different organizations represented in its membership. So it’s a great place to get started.

What is Vampyre Culture

“Vampyre Culture” is the collection of cultural elements that are the lifeblood of the Vampyre Community.

Elements of a culture include lexicon, symbols, norms and taboos, values, beliefs, arts and literature, customs and traditions, rituals, and social connection. The Vampyre Community has all of that. Our community is really a subculture and the cultural elements of our subculture are what helps our community thrive.

Whether people like it or not, our subculture revolves around the existence and popularity of certain cultural elements. People can lament that past and its era of secrecy around vampyrism… but the growth of our community has been awarded by the growth and acceptance of our style, music, and scenes.

When the culture thrives, so does the community.

What's with the titles? "Lord" & "Lady" - King, Queen, Regent, etc.

Within the Vampyre Community, there are pockets of vampyres who exist within their local communities together for a long time and therefore have created their own culture and traditions around what living like a vampyre is all about. Particularly, the Gotham Halo (New York City) forged the culture of the Vampyre Lifestyler and morphed it into a system that their community chose to live and abide by. They took elements of LARP dynamics and brought them out of the game and into their real life paradigms. These LARP dynamics mixed with influence from fraternal orders and ceremonial magick brought forth title systems and hierarchies for running their groups and rituals. The influence of the vampyric lifestyle systems Gotham created would branch out all over the United States and sometimes all over the world. Although you find areas that have real monarchy tend to shy away from pretend monarchy.

See this article about the Radical influence V:tM has had on the Vampyre Community

Despite the roleplay background some of these systems have, certain areas hold their titles in high regard. They’re supposed to be given over time when continued effort is produced and a title is awarded after a significant period of time. That’s unfortunately not the case though, so always take titles with a grain of salt.

What is the Vampyre Current?

To understand what the Vampyre Current is you must first understand what the concept of a “current” is in this context.

When a singular style of belief has enough practice behind it from enough people, the energy of the practitioners will begin to collect into its own current. This current is produced through prolonged belief and practice within that particular paradigm. Each paradigm eventually creates its own current that can eventually become an egregore. Each paradigm’s current is like a thread of collective energy woven in with the threads of like paradigms to become the larger tapestry in which we are connected to energetically and spiritually. The threads of energy that make up a current are fortified by those who embrace them, allowing them to grow ever larger the longer and more embraced they become.

The Vampyre Current is the collective energy of all vampyric energy practitioners. Some attribute the vampyre current to an ancient current that has inspired or informed blood drinking spirit and deity since time immemorial. Others attribute the widespread modern practice of vampyric magick as the cultivator of the Vampyre Current as we know it. It’s “true origin” doesn’t really matter. It’s existence is what’s important.

The Vampyre Current is what many people tap into to pull in the power of the vampyre into their spirit and magick. The way people perceive it is largely up to them. 10 people can see the same thing and describe it differently. Energy perception is no different. The Vampyre Current is a powerful force when wielded masterfully. That’s the point of learning vampyre magick.

Many organizations have their own thread in the woven fabric of the Vampyre Current. Father Sebastiaan has his current of Elorath. We have our Corvus Vampyre Current.
