Vampyric Awakening

The concept of being a “real vampyre” is subjective and the vampyric experience varies based on who is speaking about it. This disclaimer explains our stance when it comes to our content. Specifically #3 – Our definitions, philosophies, and ideals are ours alone. We share many ideals with the community at large but we never intend to speak for the community as a whole except in actual matters of fact.

This is because because you’ll find vastly different narratives about what one feels as a vampyre, what one’s awakening is like, and what criteria one needs to fall within to consider themselves a vampyre. We here at The Vampyre Coven and all of its associated groups make no insistence that we are the authority over these subjects nor that what we believe is the “one true way.” With that said…

"We are neither wholly born nor wholly made what we are. The choice for us to become was made long ago. From that time onward, we have been reborn again and again, carrying within us in every lifetime the seed of what we are."

– Michelle Belanger.

"The journey of Awakening requires a lot of work in unthreading your shadow identity from the Vampyre self."

– Buck Agrios

"Awakening is generally described as the period in which an emerging vampyre begins to sense they are “different’ than those around them. He or she begins to become aware of currents and energies they cannot see, but can definitely feel. "

– Lady CG

What is a vampyre awakening?

Vampyres have pivotal moments in their journey that leaves them with profound shifts in their consciousness, awareness, and understanding of themselves and the world around them. These moments are called “awakenings.” Witches, spiritualists, and generally conscious people of all manner have awakenings. However, Vampyres have a very specific style of awakening that they endure. When one has a “Vampyre Awakening,” it is the process of realizing that they themselves are a real vampire. The way this comes to be is different for everyone and the way one’s awakening looks will depend on the style of vampyrism they personally subscribe to.

What Happens During an Awakening?

Awakenings come in various shapes and sizes. They often come early in life around puberty or they can come much later. They can come on gradually or they can hit you in a barrage of noticeable change like a ton or bricks all at once. Or sometimes they don’t feel like anything and you have to unravel it all way later in life. No matter when or how it happens, your awakening is the moment you realize you’ve had a change (or a realization about a previous change) within you that has caused you to become a vampyre. It often involves the recognition of a deeper, more expansive and interconnected reality beyond your previous understanding. This can include feelings of being more attuned with the interconnectedness of what you find sacred, more tied to the collective consciousness & energies of the universe, a heightened sense of intuition, connection to chthonic energies and primal instincts, deeper empathy, and other sensitivities being sent into overdrive… and with this, is often a need to feed to maintain and sustain these newfound sensitivities.

This all sounds great, right? Sure, in theory…

The issue is that these changes can be rapid and overwhelming. It can hit you and then suddenly nothing seems to makes sense. You can be feeling new things, experiencing the consequences of heightened spiritual awareness, and it can be a very overstimulating and disorienting experience until you get your bearings again with these newfound perceptions and abilities. Many of us experience awakenings as young teens, which can make this process all the stranger. That’s not to say everyone’s awakening feels like that. Sometimes it’s quite the contrary. Some awakenings are subtle and gradual, only coming to head much later down the road when an individual is able to put the subtle clues together and explore their vampyric potentiality. Either way, it changes your point of view and inherently your entire life the moment you realize your awakening has begun to transpire. This new worldview and shift in perception begins a lifetime of study and mastering a newfound set of skills you probably had never before considered.

People who experience a vampyric awakening may undergo significant changes in their beliefs, values, priorities, and may feel a deep sense of longing and/or purpose for connectivity to the vampyre current. They may also experience a range of physical, emotional, and psychological symptoms, including fluctuating energy, intense emotions, vivid dreams, and a sense of detachment from the mundane world.

Why do people awaken as Vampyres?

The reason why people awaken as Vampyres is highly contested. Nobody really knows the reason why one awakens. Some naturally inclined to awaken. Some are led to it later in life. Some feel their trauma caused them to have an awakening. Some groups have vampyric spirit origin stories that they trace back to ancient times or mythological beings. Some understand their nature as a subtle body phenomenon or ailment. Some treat their vampyric nature as a gift they harness from within themselves or bestowed upon them by a higher power. The reason why, is not simple, nor agreed upon by anyone.

One thing that is generally agreed upon though is the Vampyre’s penchant for feeding. For one reason or another, whether it be a critical need or a method to maintain a higher power level as a vampyre, true vampyres feed on human vital life force through psychic and sanguine means.

The predatory nature of the vampyre manifests itself during the awakening period, which can cause them to begin to psychically feed unconsciously. This unconscious feeding often displays itself in the young vampyre as erratic & destructive behaviors, toxic relationships, and a cloud of chaos that follows them.

From the moment a Vampyre awakens, they have a duty to themselves and others to learn how to balance their dayside and nightside nature to have a positive sense of homeostasis within their day to day lives. Vampyres who believe themselves to have a need to feed will have a long road ahead figuring out how to curb their unconscious feeding so they stop creating a trail of destruction in their wake for the rest of their lives.  Through a rigorous journey with vampyric shadow work, you’ll become more and more self aware of your own nature and learn to reel in your cravings, direct your power, hone your skills, and become a physical and spiritual force to be reckoned with. Eventually you’ll learn to harness the carnal and primal urges you experience and direct that power & energy towards your craft rather than letting them lash out on the people around you with no thought behind it.

However, before you can harness the true power of the vampyre, you need to learn to take care of yourself, how to work with energy & magick, and excel in your dayside life so your nightside life can prosper too. You will have to explore your needs as a vampyre, take a while to sit with your needs and figure out why they exist and how to keep them sated. Once you are able to bring yourself to a sense of balance… Only then you can explore the depths of the power that resides within you.

Awakening Isn’t Singular

Well, that doesn’t make sense does it? You can’t wake up more than one time, right? Well, technically no, you can’t. However, spiritual awakenings can absolutely happen multiple times throughout your life… and in my opinion as someone who’s been around for a while, the paradigm shifts you’ll have throughout your vampyric existence will feel like reawakening a few times over your journey. You will more than likely exist in a vampyric space and mindset for many years and then one day you’ll realize the way you’ve been limiting yourself, or the box you’ve let yourself exist in to take up less space… and you’ll strip yourself of that conditioning to become a more authentic version of yourself. This is normal. It happens a couple times over your life, and it can be just as jarring as your first awakening. The art of becoming after you awaken is the real ride, and what you do during that path of becoming will either make or break your ability to reach adeptus.

Don’t fear this kind of change. Embrace it. Growth is supposed to happen and you’re supposed to shed what no longer serves you.

Can You use Vampyre Awakening symptom checklists?

Any responsible experienced vampyre will tell you not to use them to self-diagnose. They’re all kinda crap.

There’s no checklist that can for sure tell you if you’re a vampyre. A lot of the checklist style vampyric diagnostic tools out there give you the silliest things like sensitivity to sunlight, irritability, fatigue… Every person in America is irritable and fatigued right now. Every hermit with pale skin also have sunlight sensitivity. So are they all vampyres? Of course not, but the confirmation bias of tools with such common traits and no nuance tells everyone who looks at it they’re a vampyre.

Oftentimes people are seeking symptom checklists and articles that explain what they’re going through to validate their experiences. Outside validation is nice, but don’t become dependent on it. Explore your journey. Feel it out for yourself and decide if it’s right.

So you’ve decided you’re having a Vampyric Awakening, now what?

First thing you do: study.

Read things, read so many things. Explore on your own for a while. Draw your own conclusions about who and what you are for a while. I assure you, jumping right into community and seeking outside validation from strangers is not the best first plan of action. The vampyre community can be a harsh place and you should allow yourself time to explore what you’re experiencing without worrying about combating the bias and discrimination the VC often has to offer. Stand tall and confident in what you know you’re experiencing and don’t let the community strip you of that. Study for your own sake first.

What you end up studying and researching ultimately depends on what type of vampyre you are.

  • If you end up feeling like a sanguine vampyre, especially on the medical sanguine side, you go to The Red Cellar and read all of their materials.
  • If you end up feeling like a psychic vampyre or eros, it’s best to get into learning about life force energy, energy work, and the energy body.
  • If you’re somewhere in the spiritual vampyre realm that doesn’t sit in any of the above boxes, you’ll have an “unconventional” path compared to what “traditionalist” vampyres are prepared to handle. See this article to learn more

The one thing that generally remains true about all styles of vampyrism is a tendency to feed. Whether it’s an inherent or unavoidable need or not also depends on the style of vampyre, but feeding is a commonality amongst all vampyres regardless of the style of need.

Vampyric Gifts & Sensitivies

Once you learn to feed your needs and balance your Vampyric nature, you can experience a number of heightened sensitivities, abilities, or dark gifts. They begin to come alive within you during your awakening. You can begin to see energy fields/auras of individuals. Manipulating energy and therefore emotions and other psychic energies become possible. Heightened attunement for energy gives you heightened awareness of things around you. This attunement can be used to tap into energetic resources around you for your own growth. Being more sensitive to all types of energy allows the Vampyre to easily sense emotions and sometimes even sometimes the thoughts of those who are nearby. Those who are empathic carry this out with further ease.

Because of a Vampyre’s heightened sensitivity to all energies, a Vampyre has a more crucial need to shield or oneself from excess energy or filter out what doesn’t serve them. This energetic sensitivity can manifest itself in many forms. Be it empathy or sensitivity to many things like sunlight, specific sound frequencies, electric fields, emotions of others, etc. Our sensitivities can be heightened to a problematic state when we do not tend to our needs.

Conclusion

To wrap things up, a vampyre awakening is a powerful and personal journey that marks a major shift in how someone experiences the world around them. For those who go through it, it can bring new sensitivities, deeper spiritual insights, and an understanding of abilities they may not have realized they had. It’s a process that can feel both overwhelming but empowering, but it’s also a chance for growth and self-discovery. As people navigate this experience, it’s important to seek out knowledge and embrace the unique gifts that come with it. At the end of the day, a vampyre awakening isn’t just about accepting a new identity; it’s about learning to live more authentically with the awareness and understanding that comes with it.
